SLA Weekly Update

Hi again,

Just a quick post to let you know what's going on with SLA Industries.

We're currently in the process of building the new Nightfall/Games website. We're also building a forum for the game, and working to create an 'in character' section that hopefully SLA fans will find interesting. :)

Fingers crossed the site will be finished and available for viewing in the next few weeks.

thanks,

Dave Allsop

SLA Industries Official Announcement

Hi folks,

As Angus stated earlier on the Cubicle 7 forums, Nightfall Games sent over the completed document and art for HunterSheets Issue 2 in late Sept/early October. The release date will now be in June, 2011.
We're working on the next SLA sourcebook - (Shi'An Blood Cult), this is quite a big, and complex book to write and I think it will take a fair amount of time complete. We realise that we've been receiving some negative feedback regarding the release date but we *do* care about the SLA Industries and it's future.

I'm only able to work on SLA when I have time available, and working as a freelance illustrator that's next to nothing. If I could do SLA Industries full time again I would, but there aren't sufficient funds at Nightfall or Cubicle 7 to do so. As a result, books and source material is developed and released when time permits - this is, as they say, a labour of love.

As the paperbased material is taking so long to produce we are looking at other ways to improve our output. In the next few months we plan to release a series of short pdfs to support the game. We'll make a post regarding this next week.

thanks,

Dave

BLA 33 - Zip Gun

BLA 33 – Zip Gun

‘He shot me! The prick shot me, man! I … I’m bleeding!’ – Frankie Wilks, 16 – Krosstown Traffic gang member (deceased).

It’s all fun and games until Shiver patrols get live rounds… For centuries the standard Shiver has taken the brunt of Downtown’s hostility. As soon as he stepped out from the safety of the APC he’d face the full wrath of the gangs, Carrien, serial killers, Props, even the pigs would consider him an easy target if they had enough time to crunch through the body armour. The Browbeater simply wasn’t a threat anymore, particularly when nearly every enemy the Shivers went up against was easily better equipped for combat than they were.

SLA Industries felt it was time to conduct a new experiment. Shiver Units in the worst areas of Downtown are gradually being reequipped with a new firearm that holds live ammo. Despite being produced by BLA the new pistol is shoddy in comparison to the typical weapons carried by Operatives, it even earns the nickname ‘Zip Gun’ they think it’s so bad. To the humble gang member though, this is serious, Shivers can kill you now. It’s time for payback for all the years they’ve been laughed off by the streets, and now they have bullets instead of ball bearings, things are going to change.

GM Notes

Not every Shiver is equipped with a Zip Gun, yet. These weapons will only be encountered in the most threatening regions of Downtown but this is likely to change over time.

Most Shivers are very excited to finally have weapons that can do real damage, and they’re eager to test them out whenever possible. The Zip Gun carry 15 rounds of the new 7mm in a clip, and the standard Shiver will use all them on one target. SLA has literally sent down crates of these bullets so it’s likely that the company wants to change the preconceived notions of the Shivers.

Operatives will most likely find the change something of an annoyance though. They’ll find that the Shivers start getting in the way, trying to join in on firefights, making suggestions on how to complete current BPNs and just generally trying to outdo SLA Ops wherever possible.

‘Hey, did you just see how that Carrien’s head exploded!? Yeah manI’m a crack shot with this thing! I told ya Bobby; I could have made it as a SLA Operative if it weren’t for my knees.’

– Standard Shiver Criddick, Downtown.

The Zip Gun is by no means the best firearm ever created, - it only does marginally more damage than a CAF round, and is a single shot pistol at that, but if an entire squad of Shivers is armed with one each they pose a serious threat to the local Downtown populace if they step out of line. The pistol is a warning from SLA; they plan to take back Downtown.

Bloody Hell, where have you been?!

Hey folks,

Yup, it's another sporadic Nightfall post about 'updates' :)

The next book to be released is HunterSheets Issue Two. It *has* been written, illustrated, edited and sent off to Cubicle 7 for layout and print. They're stating a spring release, so here's hoping you'll have a new SLA product to go with your Easter Eggs!

HunterSheets Issue 2
HunterSheets Issue 2 returns with 20 more enemies to threaten the stability of the industrial giant. In this issue, these missions take the Operatives into the lowest recesses of Downtown where they'll face monsters as yet unknown by Station Analysis, like members of The Mesha - a powerful serial killer cult, and hunt down traitor subversives like Radio Clash and General Sidi Gejkta that are building massive military forces to stand against SLA.

Off-world, the Krell continue to wreck havoc on Xaime, where Legatus Dorot Binzwald is conducting horrific experiments on the remaining populace. Perhaps worst of all, The Root Dogs, the deadliest of all Conflict Alien races have returned to the World of Progress, and are baying for vengeance.

The cracks in SLA Industries' power-base are starting to show, and the dark days have only just begun …

The Nightfall team are currently working on the next 2 SLA sourcebooks - The Shi'An Blood Cult, and 'Whistling Bridge'. These are the last two books to be produced for 1st Edition SLA Industries.

Right, I better get back to work, but in the meantime here's a sneak peek at some art for the Shi'An sourcebook:-

Thanks,

Dave

SLA Industries' birthday - 23rd May

SLA Industries was conceived and first played on Saturday night, 23rd May 1987 - I was GMing the game, and the first player was Morton Smith (who went on to be one the game writers at Nightfall Games). It wasn't until around June, 1993 before the game would be published, but then, I was only 16 in 1987, and I couldn't get a business grant!

Originally, I wanted to go be an artist at Games Workshop when I left school. Unfortunately I was rubbish, and I didn't get the job (sigh...) but if I had SLA Industries may not have seen print.

(I did eventually do art for GW, around 2003 when I did a selection of freelance artwork for Black Library. The first commission was a Space Marine Chaplain fighting Gene Stealers - I was over the moon).
